Upadhyay House
Surat, Gujarat
Situated in Vesu, an emerging residential neighbourhood in Surat, India. The Sangini Terraza apartment has four bedrooms – with two bedrooms flanking each side of a central living, dining and kitchen area. Envisioned to be a reader’s haven for a family of three, every room is sprinkled with shelves and nooks to cater serendipitous moments of picking up a nearby book and settling down in a corner to read.
The heart of the apartment is an expansive living area, which showcases the use of an array of material palettes in its furniture and details that complement each other. Suspended across its bare concrete ceiling is a custom wood and metal fixture with a fabric light that helps provide scale and texture to this expansive space. In contrast to the ceiling, the walls are rendered in lime paint complemented by the deliberate use of wood in the custom furniture. This adds an earthy tone and texture to the space, making it a subtle canvas for introducing moments of colour in the form of art, objects and upholstery.
